IThe programs for incarcerated youth are designed to create opportunities for youth to develop into responsible, productive and healthy individuals. We aim to decrease the risk for the occurrence of substance abuse, violence, academic failure, dropping out of school, pregnancy and preventable illnesses and accidents among youth. The programs consist of daily group sessions and weekly individual sessions with a therapist, drug testing, HIV/STD education, substance abuse education, family issues, family therapy, family education and physical activities. The Goals for our Incarcerated Youth Programs are: 1) Abstinence from the use of alcohol or drugs 2) Acceptance of responsibility for actions and choices 3) Gain acceptance and overcome ambivalence 4) Join and age appropriate and problem specific self-help support group 5) Reduction in the risk of contracting HIV/STDs 6) Development of important life skills e.g. coping and decision making 7) Reduction in the risk for pregnancy 8) Remain in school or re-enter the work force 9) Increase social/emotional support network 10) Development of healthy roles and boundaries in the family
